Frog in our living room

Got up this morning to find this common frog in our living room.

We have been leaving the conservatory doors open until quite late so it must have hopped in when no one was looking.


Not sure why it was attracted to the bag - maybe it thought that the colours where flowers and would be a good place to hide.

I carefully picked up the frog (with damp hands) and placed it back in the pond area.

Common frogs return to the pond.

First frog appeared in the pond overnight yesterday morning.

Today a few more heads in the pond. The first frogs to arrive are usually from my garden, but others come over the following days and I have seen them come into our front garden and make their way around to the back garden where the pond is.

Two clumps of spawn also appeared overnight. They had only recently been laid as they had yet to swell up to full size. The jelly around the eggs absorbs water and the spawn clump more than doubles in size.

Some of the frogs are starting to pair up. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is spawn in the pond tomorrow.

During the rainy weather more frogs have made it back to our pond. Difficult to count, but lots of splashes and ripples every time I go to the window.

A lot more frogs have appeared in the pond. Difficult to count because they are easily disturbed and shoot of in all directions. There are several pairs and clumps off courting frogs. As to be expected there is also a lot more spawn, about 8 clumps in all, one being much larger.

As it got dark, the frog chorus started up and continued all evening. When I went outside to put the rubbish out (at about 10.00pm) I noticed that the sky looked rather spooky right out of a horror film.

It wasn't foggy so I can only assume that it was the lights from the sports stadium reflecting off the underside of very low cloud. It did look very odd.
